'...her transition from singing to rapping is beyond seamless, free-flowing with total liberation as she manages to stay totally in the pocket.'

- Amar Gera, life without andy

Jade Kenji is a Vietnamese-Australian artist hailing from Sydney's south west. Her melodies and poetic punchlines showcase her affinity for infectious flows and 90s nostalgia. With heavy influences from New Jack Swing to Nujabes, her sound is quietly smooth, yet feisty and playful.

Whilst always having dreams of becoming an artist, Jade's pursuit of a music career came later in life, after a short stint at an office job, followed by 18 months in Japan.  Growing up in Australia, she never saw Asian-Australians like herself represented in mainstream media. With the motivation to be that representation, she decided to study music, during which time she met Sydney-based hip-hop producer/beatmaker Kase Avila.

The duo collaborated to release their EP Maroyaka (2021). The tight four-track EP introduced Jade to a fanbase starving for a fresh spin on old school hip-hop. This EP was a direct result of Jade and Kase’s weekly Instagram ‘tiny desk jams’ ; boom bap and R&B mashups, where they would pay homage to their favourite songs, while adding their own flavour and flair.

In 2022, Jade released her debut single ‘Tell Me The Time’ cementing her reputation as one of the most exciting voices coming out of Sydney. Since then she has appeared in VICE Magazine, on ABC Rage and collaborated with internationally renowned producer/beatmaker grooveman Spot. She has received radio airplay in the UK, Vietnam and Japan and has completed her first international tour in Tokyo. Her boom bap inspired latest single 'I Got It' is OUT NOW with more exciting releases due in 2025.
